Our Story
Sunrider International and Sunrider Australia
Sunrider was founded in Utah, USA in 1982 by Drs’ Tei-Fu and Oi-Lin Chen. Their combined passion was to create herbal nutrition products that would help people achieve optimal health, wellness and to live their best lives. At the same time, they wanted to offer people the opportunity to generate an additional income stream when sharing Sunrider products and the business opportunity with like-minded individuals.
Expanding rapidly across the USA and then internationally, the company moved to Los Angeles in 1987 and into its own 92,000 sq. metre manufacturing facility. Today, Sunrider operates in over 40 countries and territories around the world. In these countries including Australia and New Zealand they offer people the opportunity to start their own independent business in sharing and promoting both the products and the associated business opportunity.
In 2022 the company will re-locate their manufacturing, research and development from Los Angeles to a purpose built 102,000 sq. metre facility just outside Dallas in Texas. Their international head office will still remain in Torrance in California.
The Sunrider Australian operation started in 1990 and was based in Melbourne for the first 25 years. Then in 2015 the company moved their office & logistical support operations to Sydney. Sunrider Australia today offers over 100 unique products that range from herbal foods and beverages to active life-style/sports recovery to skincare and to household products. We process and despatch all our Independent Business Owners (distributors) and customers’ orders all across Australia and New Zealand from our Sydney operation.

A Fusion of Tradition and Innovation
While our founders, Drs. Tei-Fu and Oi-Lin Chen, started the company in Utah in 1982, their journey begins decades earlier in Tei-Fu’s homeland, Taiwan. Growing up, Tei-Fu was an unhealthy child. His grandfather cared for him with timeless Chinese herbal remedies. The medicinal properties of these plants were so powerful that they ignited in Tei-Fu a lifelong passion for Chinese herbal philosophy. While studying he met and married Oi-Lin, a gifted medical student from Hong Kong.
The couple paired their natural curiosity, scientific expertise, and shared entrepreneurial spirit to start a business that would change lives through natural products.
This founding philosophy fuels the Sunrider family business today. Dr. Tei-Fu Chen is a world-renowned herbalist with a degree in pharmacy and his wife, Dr. Oi-Lin Chen, is a licensed medical doctor. Their five children help guide our global enterprise across nearly 50 countries and territories, in partnership with thousands of inspiring Independent Business Owners. Dr. Reuben Chen - Board of Directors
Personifying a holistic approach to health, Dr. Reuben is a board-certified physician specialising in sports medicine and pain management and has extensive training in traditional Chinese medicine. He plays an active role in the research and development of our ground breaking products.
Sunny Beutler - CEO
Multitasking on a global level for over 15 years, Sunny has deftly managed the many moving parts of Sunrider’s international operations.
She brings her business acumen to bear in her role as CEO, with a mission to strengthen Sunrider’s position as a world leader in health, wellness, and opportunity.
Eric Chen - Global Manufacturing Chief
An organic chemist, Eric oversees the management of the U.S. Manufacturing Plant, including U.S. Food & Drug Administration compliance, product launches, and research and development. Eric works with Sunrider’s team of scientists to stay on the cutting-edge of product innovation while seeking ways to improve operational and production efficiency.
Jonathan Chen - Board of Directors
The leader of pivotal IT projects, Jonathan brings his technological prowess to Sunrider’s board, advising them on integral aspects of IT. He strives to provide both Sunrider entrepreneurs and employees alike with a more seamless, productive, and enjoyable online experience.
Wendy Teng - Board of Directors
Wendy brings her broad and deep expertise in global marketing, brand building, package design, and strategic planning to the Board of Directors. Combining creativity with critical thinking, Wendy provides the insights and know-how needed to guide Sunrider along the path to an ever-brighter future.
